SPECIALIST TRAINING SCHEDULE – VOLUNTARY SESSIONS

The Canterbury Junior Football Club actively supports all players acquire and develop skills and invests and offers additional (voluntary sessions) for all players.

Skills Training is provided on a rotating basis to all teams from Under 8 through to Under 14. Sessions are conducted on a Monday evening at Canterbury Sports Ground commencing on April 24. In addition to these sessions, in 2017 we will also introduce a specialised girls training program.

Skills Training sessions in 2017 will focus on the following core areas:

  • Disposal by Foot (Specialised Kicking Sessions with an accredited AFL Coach)
  • Game Sense and Tactics (inside video / discussion sessions will be added to the 2017 program)
  • Tackling and Handball
  • Game Sense
  • Junior Girls Football Development – New Program for 2017

The Canterbury Junior Football Club has a strong link with the Box Hill Hawks Football Club and for a number of years Skills Training at Canterbury has been conducted by Box Hill VFL Players.

This not only brings new ideas, strategies and training techniques to the football program, it also provides a valuable mentoring and leadership opportunity for our skills coaches.

JUNIOR GIRLS DEVELOPMENT

Canterbury Junior Football Club is committed to supporting junior girls participation. We are excited to announce that we have secured the services of AFLW Melbourne Star Harriet Cordner to assist us in developing and supporting the introduction of junior girls football at the club. The club aspires to field a full girls team in 2018. Opportunities may exist for girls to join one of the existing teams in 2017 should there be interest.

Harriet was recruited to the inaugural Melbourne AFL Womens team in 2017, having previously played State League Soccer for Alamein. In 1997, Harriet was the only young girl to attend Auskick at Canterbury Football Club. Welcome Back Harriet!!!!

Harriet will work closely with Peter Scott (Coaching Director) to foster and develop a program to encourage and assist junior girls to play AFL. Throughout 2017 specialised girls training sessions will be held on Monday evenings (see the 2017 Speicialst Training Schedule for further details). This will allow girls interested in playing AFL to practice and have fun and gain confidence playing our great game.

The timetable can be found at our website, or via TeamAPP.
