Club Philosophy

Canterbury Junior Football Club

Canterbury Junior Football Club (CJFC) is a community based Club which attracts a significant following through the families, extended families and friends of our players.

CJFC invests in the football development of over 400 children, both boys and girls, from its Auskick program through to Under 14 and by extension to U15 and Colts (U17) through its foundation membership of the Boroondara Hawks.

Participation in our game in safe and enjoyable AFL Auskick and junior club environments can significantly contribute to the development and social wellbeing of young people. We aim to have fun in every activity and actively encourage new and old friendships for players and families.

Our overriding philosophy is aligned with the AFL,

To provide an environment where young players can play the game and sequentially develop their skills through activities, games, match rules and conditions commensurate with their stage of learning and level of ability. This is key to children’s self-esteem.

CJFC believe that:

  • Sport for children is a vital part of their growing up.
  • Children like to win but, more importantly, they want to have fun.
  • Parents need to set the right example at the sports ground, not just at home.
  • Parents should be proud of their child’s efforts, irrespective of the result.
